Oriental Modalities

Acupressure:

Is based on principles of acupuncture. It is an ancien Chinese technique that uses finger pressure on specific points that fall on various energy pathways (meridians) to treat stress, aches, pains, menstrual cramps, arthritis, etc. and is used for general preventive care.

Shiatsu:

The most widely known form of acupressure, Shiatsu has been used in Japan for more than 2,000 years to treat pain and illness and for general health maintenance using a series of techniques. Practitioners use rhythmic finger pressure to stimulate Chi or vital energy. Shiatsu expert Toru Namikoshi in his book The Complete Book of Shiatsu Therapy says "...Shiatsu concentrates on the human element of cure and strives to evoke the self-healing powers inherent in the human body."
